More about Dr David Fineberg

Dr David Fineberg

Dr David Fineberg is a General Practitioner and PhD candidate at the University of Melbourne, specialising in complex chronic illnesses including ME/CFS, Long COVID, POTS, and other overlapping neuroimmune and autonomic conditions. He is the founder of the ME Research Clinic (MERC), a dedicated service offering comprehensive clinical assessment and management of ME/CFS and Long COVID, including support with NDIS, TPD, and DSP applications. This clinical care is complemented by an active research program focused on advancing understanding and treatment of these conditions.

At MERC, Dr Fineberg and his team deliver patient-centred care, including detailed autonomic and symptom profiling, pacing and energy management strategies, evidence-informed pharmacotherapy, and assistance with functional assessments. The clinic also maintains strong research connections, providing opportunities for interested patients to learn about and participate in studies exploring pathophysiology and personalised treatment pathways across ME/CFS, Long COVID, POTS, and related syndromes.

Dr. Fineberg is involved in education and has authored a clinical case on POTS, as well as co-authored the ME/CFS case for the RACGP Check program. He has published on autonomic dysfunction and therapeutic approaches in post-viral and energy-limiting conditions, translating emerging science into practical clinical strategies for patients with multisystem symptoms.

As a PhD student in the Melbourne ME/CFS collaboration (part of the Open Medicine Foundation network), he contributes to precision medicine projects integrating clinical phenotyping with multiomics platforms (metabolomics, proteomics, immune profiling) and advanced 7T MRI studies like MELOPIS. These efforts aim to identify biologically distinct subgroups and correlate molecular, autonomic, and neuroimaging findings with clinical outcomes.

Dr Fineberg serves as inaugural co-deputy chair of the RACGP's ELPIC (Energy Limiting and Post Infectious Conditions) Special Interest Group, helping advance national standards, education, and support for these often under-recognised conditions.

We welcome new patients (current waitlist ~5 months). Patients are encouraged to explore research opportunities that align with their capacity and interests, with full information provided to support informed choices regardless of illness severity.
